Physician Assistants, or PAs, are licensed healthcare professionals who provide a full-range of services, including direct patient care, in all medical disciplines. Established as a profession in 1968, PAs deliver high-quality, cost-effective health care to the community. Requirements for licensing include a bachelor's degree in healthcare and a master's degree in physician assistant studies. PAs are certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
At NOSS, PAs are an integral part of the patient's pre-operative, intra-operative and post-operative experience. PAs record patient histories, conduct physical exams on patients, establish diagnoses, and treat patients. PAs are the first assist in surgical procedures, and provide care in the hospital setting for post-operative patients. PAs and their supervising physicians are in constant communication; they are extensions of physicians.
